Remember those old days playing Mario and Battle City on that "bulky" Nintendo Entertainment System? Wished you could play them again, but without carrying a TV and the console itself with you? All you got is a phone? Well then Nescube is for you!

Nescube is an free java application for cellphones which acts like an NES emulator, allowing you to play your favorite childhood games. You will have Contra and Arkanoid at the reach of your pocket! The emulator is somehow crude, on some phones it works alright, on some it's choppy. I was surprised to see that it was working ok on my SE K750i, but it was somehow choppy on an N73. Besides the few performance issues, this applications works great. There are tons of things to customize like orientation, screen size, rendering engine, FPS setup etc.

But the best part is that you can put tons of games in it, all that you need is the .nes file which you can find on the internet. The download link below has a few of them, like Super Mario Bros 1, Contra, Excitebike etc.

Internet Explorer 8

I was never really an Internet Explorer enthusiast and never will be. Their features are extremely basic and some are downright stupid. The security is outdated and crude. Yes, I am an Firefox fanboy :P .

Recently someone said that IE8 had just been released and thought I should go and check it. Downloaded and installed it, darn thing made me do a restart. From my first look on it, I really didn't saw much of a difference between IE7 and IE8, other then the "addons" and a few design tweaks. First impressions made me think that I downloaded a ~15mb file just for menu changes and a new name.

But don't lose hope! According to the video above, IE8 is faster then Firefox with *drum sounds* 0.02 seconds ! At first, when I saw the video, I thought it was a joke or something, they couldn't possibly be trying to be serious about being the fastest browser with only 0.02 seconds distance. That's seriously an big overhaul, surely I would choose Internet Explorer 8 and sacrifice the security of Mozilla Firefox with her addons for that 0.02 seconds of my life.

My advice? Dump Internet Explorer and get a REAL browser like Opera, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.

An old halo trailer I found

As I was digging through my oldies but goldies CDs, I found an very interesting Halo trailer. The trailer looks pre-rendered (really doubt they had soft shadows back then) and was made in 1999. It looks pretty amazing, considering how old it is. At first, they wanted to make it an 3rd person shooter, but scraped the idea and made an FPS (fortunately).

As you can see in the video, they have changed a lot of things till the release of Combat Evolved. Some of the old stuff look better then the current ones, like the elite skin and the general design. Don't really know why, but I think if it would've been like this... Halo could've been bigger and better. That's probably just my nostalgia kicking in.
